It’s like a step back in time when you visit the river boat wharf of Echuca. Enjoy this 19th Century Wharf on the Murray River Victoria.
The Port of Echuca is on the Murray River in Victoria, Pictured here with the paddle steamers Alexander Arbuthnot and the Adelaide.
Paddle steamers are moored here on a regular basis, so you can see them up close and even climb aboard for a guided tour. See the old river boats in all their glory. It is even possible to take a tour on the Emmylou for an experience you won’t forget. See how our pioneers travelled back in those early days, travelling from port to port along the mighty Murray transporting their goods. Learn about the hardships endured when the River was low, and travel was not possible. Or just take a look around and try to visualise the scenes from the Mini-series.
Visit after dark for a ghostly tour, if your lucky you may encounter an eerie presence from the busy port days.
The P S Emmylou is a sight to behold when she travels down river whether it be aboard or from the banks of the Murray she is a treasure and if she could speak would be only too happy to share her tales of adventures from long ago.
I enjoyed my visit, taking it all in and capturing some gorgeous images. More of these images can be seen on the website www.owenwilson.net.au compare them with the ones you take when you visit this wonderful place along the Murray in Echuca.
